Fiona Ford is an experienced historical novelist and ghostwriter whose sixteen published books span wartime sagas, character-driven historical fiction and contemporary stories. She has worked with major publishers including Orion, HarperCollins, Random House, Head of Zeus and Canelo, and has ghostwritten two celebrity novels, one of which became a Sunday Times bestseller.

Before becoming an author, Fiona worked as a commissioning editor and journalist for national magazines, where she developed a deep understanding of story, character, emotional resonance and audience. This editorial experience underpins her approach to mentoring, and she particularly enjoys helping writers strengthen the structural and emotional foundations of their work, while considering how best to engage and connect with readers.

Fiona’s own novels are known for their rich period detail, character-led storytelling and emotional depth. She has a special interest in women’s stories set against the backdrop of the Second World War, and is currently working on a new historical novel set in communist Italy.

She has spoken at a variety of author events and has run workshops for local libraries and schools, often focusing on character, emotion and reader connection.

If Fiona were stranded on a desert island, the first historical novel she would want with her is The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, for its powerful exploration of women’s courage and the emotional truths of wartime life. The second would be The Narrow Road to the Deep North by Richard Flanagan, for its extraordinary beauty, emotional intensity and its unflinching portrayal of love, brutality and survival during the Second World War.
