Emma is an editor with more than twenty years’ experience in publishing, both in-house and freelance. She spent much of her career at HarperCollins, working on the Voyager list across fantasy, science fiction, horror and historical fiction. Authors she has worked with include George R. R. Martin, Peter V. Brett, Jay Kristoff and Josh Malerman, whose novel Bird Box she acquired for the UK and Australia. Since leaving HarperCollins, she has worked as a freelance editor across a wide range of genres.

Emma has always had an interest in ancient history as well as medieval British history and mythology, having spent every childhood holiday wandering ruins. She is fascinated by the ways in which beliefs, stories and everyday lives intersect with larger historical events.

If Emma were stranded on a desert island, the books she’d like to keep her company would be Dorothy Dunnett’s Niccolo Rising series and Lisa See’s Snow Flower and the Secret Fan.
