If you’re passionate about history and historical fiction and want to be part of a growing business, then we would love to hear from you. Specific opportunities are listed below. All positions are offered on a freelance basis unless otherwise stated.

To enquire about a position, email jobs@thehistoryquill.com.

Copy-editor

We are looking for freelance copy-editors to join our team. You will be working on copy-edits and proofreads, helping authors to prepare their novels for publication or put their best foot forward when submitting to agents and publishers.

This role is suitable for experienced fiction copy-editors. You’ll need to understand the specific demands of historical fiction and how they impact copy-editing.  You can learn more about our copy-editing and proofreading services here.

Our competitive rates of pay are calculated based on the word count of the manuscript and the type of edit requested. A full fee table will be shared with shortlisted candidates and is available on request.

To apply, please email your cover letter and CV to Rachel Russell at jobs@thehistoryquill.com. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to take a short test.

Please note that this role is available to UK residents only.

Blog post writers

We are looking to expand our pool of freelance blog post contributors. We pay £100 for posts of around 1,000 words. Bloggers will be invited to pitch on a monthly basis, and can pitch as regularly or infrequently as they wish.

Our articles are designed to help our community of authors develop their skills and knowledge across all areas of historical fiction. This means we are specifically looking for articles on writing craft, history and research, publishing, and marketing (tailored to historical fiction). For an idea of the sort of topics we publish, you can view our blog here.

To apply, please email Rachel Russell at jobs@thehistoryquill.com. Please include samples of your previous writing work and a cover letter reflecting on your interests and experience related to the sort of historical fiction topics we commission.

This role is open to both UK and non-UK residents.
