Lucretia Lutyens

Group coaching tutor

Lucretia grew up in both the USA and the UK. She holds an MA with Distinction in Biography and Non Fiction from The University of East Anglia. Before her research was thoroughly derailed by the pandemic, she had completed everything but the dissertation for her PhD in History at The University of Maine where she was a Canadian American Fellow specializing in Indigenous history and women’s history of North America.

Lucretia particularly enjoys teaching and has extensive experience leading writing workshops and coaching individual authors. Her published work, as Lucretia Grindle, includes eight novels which have been short listed for the CWA Steel Dagger and the Edgar awards. She is currently working on the final novel of a trilogy set around the Salem witchcraft trials.

When she is not grappling with writing, she cooks with more enthusiasm than skill, walks the dog, and reads. A lot. She admires too many historical novelists to name, but if stranded on a desert island would probably choose Hilary Mantel’s A Place of Greater Safety for its scope, emotional intelligence, and just plain genius. A close second would be the works of Maria Doria Russell, especially A Thread of Grace, Doc, and Dreamers of the Day, which are all masterclasses in the art of fictionalizing history on the margins of world events.
