Our book promotion service enables you to advertise your books directly to our email list of 10,000+ historical fiction readers. All of these readers have signed up for our curated book suggestion service, The History Quill Book Club. We send suggestions to our readers once a week, with a maximum of eight books advertised in each promotion email.

Pricing flexibility

Unlike most other book promotion services, we don’t restrict our promotions to free or discounted books. You can choose to discount your book during your promotion period if you like, but it’s not mandatory, and we’re happy to accept books at full price. This gives you more flexibility in how you use our service and allows you to generate more revenue from each promotion.

Promote your series

If you have a series, our service allows you to promote either the first book in your series, a box set, or the whole series (as long as you have a series page on Amazon). By using Amazon series pages, we can direct readers to your entire series, allowing them to easily buy all the books in one go.

Scheduling options

We give you the option to choose a preferred date for your promotion that suits you. Our promotions go out every Monday, so you can choose whichever Monday works best for you. This allows you to schedule your promotion to coincide with other promotional activities and maximise the impact.

Sales reports

We believe in full transparency about our sales results, which is why we use our Amazon affiliate links to track sales for every book and report the figures back to you. You’ll be able to see exactly how many sales resulted from each promotion.

How our promotion service works


Submit your book for consideration

We open for book submissions once per quarter. You can check to see whether we are currently open below. If we are open for submissions, we will ask you to complete a short form to tell us about your book and provide your promotion scheduling preferences. We’ll let you know whether or not your book has been selected for a promotion shortly after the submission deadline.


Book your slot

Once your book has been selected, you will be able to book your slot by paying the fee.


Second submission form

After you have booked your slot, we will ask you to complete a second submission form to provide us with some additional details so that we can create your book listing on our website and prepare for your promotion.


Promotion day!

We will promote your book to our audience via email on the scheduled promotion day.


Sales report

We send out sales reports once per month. You will receive yours the month after your promotion date, and it will tell you how many sales you received from the promotion.

Submission guidelines

What we’re looking for:

  • Full length historical fiction or historical fantasy
  • Single books or a series/series box set consisting of three or more books
  • Books available to purchase in digital form
  • Books available to purchase from both and
  • Full price or discounted, as you prefer
  • Positive reviews on Amazon
  • Professional cover and blurb

We’re unlikely to accept:

  • Children’s historical fiction
  • Erotic historical fiction
  • Historical fantasy that does not take place on Earth
  • Books that are priced unrealistically
  • Free books
  • Single books in a series that are not the first in that series (see note below about submitting books in a series)
  • The same author more than once every three months
  • The same book, or a book in the same series, more than once every six months

Submitting books in a series

If you want to submit a book that is in a series, please either submit the first book in that series or submit the whole series (or a box set) for a series promotion. We do not accept the second, third, or fourth (and so on) book in a series as a single book, as new readers generally don’t want to start in the middle of a series. The only exceptions to this are if your book is a genuine standalone, despite being part of a series, or if our readers are likely to have read your previous books already.

Which countries do you accept submissions from?

We welcome submissions from authors and publishers who are resident in the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada (excluding Saskatchewan), Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and any EU country. If you are not resident in one of these countries, unfortunately we won’t be able to accept your business at this time.

Which subgenres of historical fiction do you accept?

We accept a wide range of historical fiction subgenres. For convenience, we divide all books into five main subgenre categories: action/adventure, mystery/thriller, drama, romance, and historical fantasy. However, there is a lot of variety within these categories, and we’re happy to accept books that cross between them or don’t fit neatly into a specific category.

Can you share more information about your readers?

We will advertise your books to our email list of historical fiction readers. All of these readers have signed up for our curated book suggestion service, The History Quill Book Club. Our survey data shows that approximately 50% of our readers are resident in the United States, and 40% are resident in the United Kingdom. The remaining 10% are resident in Canada, the EU, and elsewhere.

How can I promote books that are in a series?

You have two options: you can either choose a single book promotion and submit the first book in your series, or you can choose a series promotion and promote your entire series using your Amazon series page, or a box set.

We don’t accept submissions for single book promotions if the book is the second/third/fourth in a series and so on, as readers generally don’t like to start a series in the middle. The only exceptions are if our readers are likely to have read your previous books already or if your book genuinely stands alone, despite being in a series.

How often can I submit my books?

We don’t normally accept books from the same author more than once every three months, and we don’t normally accept the same book, or a book in the same series, more than once every six months.

If you’re not sure when you last promoted a book with us, we recommend searching your emails for the confirmation email we always send when we accept a book submission. This will specify the promotion date.

How many books can I submit at once?

We only accept one book per author for each round, but you’re free to submit more than this and let us choose between them. If you wish to do this, we suggest submitting a maximum of three books.

How does this work for publishers?

Publishers are very welcome to use our service. We will accept up to five books per publisher, per submission round. The rules regarding how often we will promote books by the same author, and the same book or series, are the same as above.

Publishers will be able to pay for all their promotions in one go, each round. Our standard payment method is debit or credit card. If you require a different payment arrangement, please contact, and we will be happy to discuss the options.

How many sales will I get?

Every book is different, and we never make any guarantees, but we have an excellent track record of generating sales from our promotions. You can view up-to-date sales data in the ‘key information’ section above. We update this every quarter based on the results from the last three full months.

Our sales data is gathered from our Amazon affiliate links. However, this underrepresents real sales and earnings, since it does not include KU page reads and does not include read-through (when a reader enjoys a book and then buys other books by the same author) over time. Nor does it account for readers buying books via other retailers. It is therefore a conservative estimate of results.

Our service is designed to maximise return on investment for authors and publishers, and our pricing is calibrated with this in mind.

My submission was rejected. What now?

We have certain criteria for submissions (see ‘submission guidelines’ above), so sometimes we do have to reject books. If this happens to you, you will receive a brief explanation of why your book was rejected. Take this feedback on board for next time, and it will improve your chances of selection. If you’re rejected, you’re very welcome – and encouraged – to try again, as long as you meet our criteria.

How do I pay?

You can pay by credit or debit card once we have accepted your submission. If you are a publisher, please contact if you require an alternative payment arrangement.

Which payment currencies do you accept?

We accept three payment currencies: USD, GBP, and EUR. The currency you pay in will depend on your country of residence. People resident in the UK will pay in GBP, people resident in the EU will pay in EUR, and people resident in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa will pay in USD.
